Having grown up on the Wirral, this has always been an interesting view for me, although I&#8217;ve still never walked over to them.<\/p>\n<p>They have an interesting history, and have thought to have been occupied since the stone age, been home to monks and a place of pilgrimage. I am not sure when people stopped living there, but I do remember talks in school by my headmaster describing how some students used to row over to attend (probably as a way to try and inspire us&#8230; Not sure it worked!)..<\/p>\n<p>Looking from West Kirby or Hoylake, the sun sets behind it, forming a nice silhouette.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hilbre Island is one of a group of three small islands just off the coast of the Wirral Peninsula.
