After a climb of 414 steps, I finally made it to the top of Giotto’s Campanile, a huge bell tower next to Florence cathedral. The view is quite breathtaking (or was that the climb!). The top level is quite open, with a fairly low wall and a security fence. Happily the security fence had large camera friendly gaps in the mesh. On this occasion I only had my compact camera, so (with strap secure) I could push it out over the edge without a risk of dropping it.

This shot was looking back towards the Boboli gardens, the building at the top of them made a nice target for a tilt shift effect, which gives it the look of being a model.
