Hilbre Island is one of a group of three small islands just off the coast of the Wirral Peninsula. Having grown up on the Wirral, this has always been an interesting view for me, although I’ve still never walked over to them.

They have an interesting history, and have thought to have been occupied since the stone age, been home to monks and a place of pilgrimage. I am not sure when people stopped living there, but I do remember talks in school by my headmaster describing how some students used to row over to attend (probably as a way to try and inspire us… Not sure it worked!)..

Looking from West Kirby or Hoylake, the sun sets behind it, forming a nice silhouette.
